Parking lot striping is generally priced around $0.80 per linear foot for high-quality solvent-based paint, or around $1.50 per linear foot for curbs that require more paint. Overall job costs depend on the size and scope of work: a small parking lot may cost around $800, a medium lot typically runs $2,000-$3,000, and large properties like malls or stadiums can run into the tens of thousands. ADA compliance also requires proper signage, not just painted lines, including mounted handicap signs at the correct height and van-accessible designations where required. How far from the curb should parking stops be placed?

How long do parking stops last?

Precast concrete parking stops typically last 10-15 years or more. They are concrete all the way through and extremely durable. Rubber parking stops last 5-10 years and hold up well in harsh weather with UV and humidity resistance. Recycled plastic car wheel stops last 5-10 years depending on traffic. All types can be replaced individually.

Can wheel stops be installed on asphalt?

Yes. We use different anchoring methods depending on the surface. Concrete surfaces get rebar pins drilled and epoxied into the pavement. Asphalt surfaces get lag bolts or spike anchors. Both methods provide secure, long-lasting parking stop installation for any commercial lot or parking garage.

What is the difference between concrete and rubber wheel stops?

Concrete parking stops are the most common type requested by San Antonio businesses. They're affordable, extremely durable, and can tolerate heavy trucks. Rubber parking stops are lighter, more suitable for harsh and fluctuating weather conditions, and come with reflective tape or paint for high visibility. Both are effective; the best choice depends on your traffic volume, climate exposure, and budget.

How deep do bollards need to be set?

For standard vehicle impact protection, steel bollards should be set in concrete footings at least 18-24 inches deep. The depth depends on the bollard diameter, height, and the level of impact resistance needed. Storefront and gas station protection bollards that need to stop a moving vehicle require deeper footings than delineator posts used for traffic guidance.

How far apart should bollards be spaced?

For vehicle exclusion, parking bollards are typically spaced 4-5 feet apart (center to center). This gap is wide enough for pedestrians, wheelchairs, and strollers to pass through but narrow enough to block passenger vehicles. Wider spacing may be appropriate for areas where only truck access needs to be restricted.

Can bollards be installed on existing asphalt or concrete?

Yes. We core-drill into existing pavement to set bollards in concrete footings. For locations where drilling isn't practical, surface-mount parking bollards with heavy-duty anchor bolts are an alternative. Surface-mount options provide less impact resistance than embedded bollards but work well for traffic guidance and low-speed protection. We also install bollards indoors in warehouses and facilities.

What is the difference between bollards and delineator posts?

Steel safety bollards are heavy-duty physical barriers designed to stop vehicles on impact. They protect storefronts, building entrances, gas stations, and pedestrian areas from vehicle intrusions. Delineator posts and parking guide posts are lighter vertical markers used to organize parking lot layout, direct traffic, mark ADA-accessible parking, and delineate restricted stalls. Both serve important safety roles but for different threat levels.

Do bollards require maintenance?

Minimal. Steel bollards with baked powder coat finish resist rust and corrosion but should be repainted every few years to maintain visibility. Reflective tape should be replaced when it loses its reflective quality. Flexible bollards and delineator posts are essentially maintenance-free and return to upright position after impact. We recommend an annual visual inspection to check for anchor loosening or damage.

How long do parking lot signs last?

High-quality aluminum metal signage with reflective sheeting typically lasts 7-10 years or more in San Antonio's climate. The reflective coating may need replacement before the sign face itself, especially on south-facing signs that receive the most UV exposure. Can I reuse my existing posts?

In many cases, yes. If your existing posts are galvanized steel, structurally sound, and set at the correct depth, we can mount new metal signs on them. During the site assessment, we evaluate every post and let you know which ones can be reused and which should be replaced.

Do I need signs if I have painted symbols on the pavement?

Yes. The ADA requires a mounted metal sign at every accessible parking space. Pavement markings alone do not satisfy the requirement. A vehicle parked in the space would block the pavement marking from view, which is why mounted metal signage at least 48 inches high is necessary. Missing ADA signage can result in fines up to $75,000.

What about fire lane signs?

San Antonio fire code requires fire lanes to be clearly marked with metal signs and/or painted curbs. Fire lane signs should be posted at regular intervals along the designated fire lane.
